Leaving Lucan....
With the help of the OPP and the Lucan- Biddulph Fire Department keeping us safe and guiding the way the walkers head out for the 4.5 hour walk . Over the past 3 years, the small group of walkers has raised over $23,000 to help find a cure and fight this HORRIBLE disease that needs to be eliminated and become a part of everyones past.
The K's for Carol Cancer Walk started in Nov 2008 after a co worker at Murphy Bus Lines, Arva Ontario was Diagnosed with Cancer. Carol Maslen a long time employee of Murphy Bus Lines was diagnosed with 3 types of Cancer, Colon, Liver and Lung. In 2008 the walk started with about 60 employees, family and friends walking from the Murphy Bus Lines depot in Lucan to The Arva Depot. The walk is 22.7km. The route is Lucan to Saintsbury Line to # 7 to Wonderland road to Medway Road and then into Arva. After the first walk in November 2008 another long time employee of Murphy Bus Lines Ina Finlayson (Seaforth Manager) lost her battle with cancer in Dec 2008, In 2009 Dan Middleton (St. Mary shop) sadly lost his battle and sadly in September we lost Carol. The dedication and commitment each year from all that join in their effort to raise funds to help find the cure for cancer is nothing short of amazing.
At the half way point......
Two of the most inspirational people in my life, my mom for everything she does and my oldest daughter Dalainey who completed the full 23km and who said at the end that she is not having a present birthday this year, she just wants to give money to Cancer Research.
Arriving in Arva....
Dalainey and her personal escorts who got her to the end!
The K's for Carol Walk is always looking for more participants and sponsors. Please help out this great organization as we all have people in our life that are battling with Cancer and with small steps, it is people like these that will make it possible to find the cure. For some it is too late, but for others we can make a difference, and need to do it now.
Organizers Patti Walsh , Heather Smith , & Phyllis Hansen
